Summer in Seattle!
The flowering plum tree in my backyard is no longer in bloom but has grown at least 4 feet taller this spring! I'm loving the longer summer days when there is still some light in the sky at 10:30pm and I can take a walk without a wearing a jacket. I've been working in the garden and am preparing to place my new "Moon Goddess" birdbath into it's special place. I'll have a picture posted when it's completed.
This summer my Teen Studio and Adult Handbuilding classes will be working with Raku Firing. It's a very exciting method of firing your glazed pieces from start to finish in about an hour. We remove each piece from the kiln when it has a hot melted surface and place it into a metal trash can with combustible material inside that flames up. In the can the clay turns black and the glazes look metallic and shimmery when the pots are removed. If you enjoy "playing with fire", this method is very rewarding.
