Winter in Seattle!
I woke up this morning to the sound of fog horns in the distance. The fog swirled and surrounded my house in a veil of mystery. Quite a change from my Kansas childhood! I love the screeching of the seagulls overhead. This is the beginning of the winter rainy season when everything turns green and lush again. I've been busy working in the studio, preparing for my Holiday Pottery Sale on December 6th. Our big gas kiln has been firing almost non-stop for the last few weeks. It feels like Christmas morning every time I open the kiln and take out the treasures.
Our studio potters group has adopted the name, Third Runway Potters, since our studio, Moshier Community Art Center, is at the base of the new third runway at Seatac Airiport. On Sunday, December 6th, from 11am to 5pm our Holiday Studio Pottery Sale takes place which is a very fun and relaxing time to find a one-of-a-kind handmade piece of art for gift giving. Enjoy a glass of spiced cider and delicious munchies and visit with the artists.
Registration for winter classes will open the second week of December. The classes will actually begin the first week of January. I'll be teaching a Teen Clay Studio on Wheel Throwing and an Adult Handbuilding class that is Back to the Basics. We'll experiment with a variety of building techniques and surface decoration possibilities. Registration is through the City of Burien Parks and Recreation.
